Action – Social Assistance and Support Program at IVIRTIVIK
Since September 2019, the Ivirtivik Centre has been offering the Action program in collaboration with Services Québec to Inuit registered for job search services who meet certain eligibility criteria.
Ivirtivik can welcome up to 10 participants in this program every year. Action supports recipients of last-resort financial assistance who have been away from the labour market for a long time and face obstacles to re‑entering it.
This 20-hour per week program promotes stability, autonomy, healthy life habits, and the development of interpersonal and professional skills both at home and at work, which helps candidates reach their full potential.
Recipients under the Action program are given a monthly allowance and are reimbursed for transportation costs related to their participation in professional integration activities while they continue to receive last-resort financial assistance from Services Québec.
Here is a quote from Robert Weetaluktuk, one of the Inuit’s registered in Action at Ivirtivik:
“I like coming at Ivirtivik because I can meet with people from my community and I really like to clean.
Coming here makes me happier and I learn about myself. I learned how to clean better at work, but also at home. I also like helping others. If I have the opportunity to have a job in cleaning, I would be interested in applying.”
